MAP News! A
knife customer who has asked to remain anonymous has donated 6
Quality production knives for the 2009 MAP program. This is FANTASTIC.....and means that before the program has started, we have collected approx. 20 factory knives for the Troops. This year we will be asking as many people and companys as possible to help us to make this one of the best MAP programs ever. If you have any knives or field gear you want to donate, contact us, send it in and we will pass it along. to deployed troops We are also hoping to raffle one of the M4X Punisher Prototype knives and use 1/2 of the proceeds to buy knives for Troops. So, if your willing to donate one dollar to help us , you could win a valuable collectors item which is also a fully functional survival knife. (we are checking the rules on that stuff now, I think non donators will also be welcomed to enter). That's in addition to the regular program. If you are a soldier who has already written and not been in a past program, we have your name. So get your camera ready to go, and send us some photos. Watch the MAP page for the entire deal. Also need a MAP girl for this years program....Yep.... a woman who understands that the troops need to see a pretty face from time to time and appreciates knives. So if your that girl, 18 to 81 yrs old send in your photo and a brief . If we receive more than one entry, we will let the troops pic the pic. You'll get a knife for your efforts, and be dubbed Miss MAP 2009. It's all in fun for the troops.. your photo will appear on the 2009 MAP page. Thanks to the U.S. Military for your sacrifices to your country and to the cause of freedom. ![]() Thanks to every soldier who has participated in the previous programs. Watch this page for details. Our goal is to make the whole deal more interesting and fun for the Troops. NOTE: The MAP program is NOT tax deductible in any way. It is simply an individual effort by me Dan Certo and any one who participates to show support for the people who are protecting our freedom. Nothing received or given in this program is deducted from my income tax or Relentless knives. Also deployed Military personnel who receive knives must send photos in exchange for the knives. So these are not gifts. Photos become the property of Dan Certo, and are used to further the MAP program. ![]() Knives on right, Kindly donated by an anonymous Great person. ![]() Knives on the left, and more not pictured procured from Jeff Knox another Great person. |

Hi
Dan, I have one of your knives from 2006. It has green canvas micarta
slabs with red liners, a slight recurved to the blade, and saw teeth for
about an inch and a half on the spine. Total length is 10" with a 5.75"
blade. It is signed on the spine with your name and date. Pics are
below. I don't see it on your website, so it must be a discontinued
model. It's hard to find where your knives are selling on the Internet
for an estimate of value. eBay comes up empty for your knives, as do
Bladeforums and Knifeforums, with a few not-so-recent exceptions. What would you say the value of the knife is? Would it be of interest to collectors, and, if so, where do these collectors hang out that I could reach them. Finally, is there a place on the Internet where your knives do sell? What is easy to find on the Internet are praises of your character and attention to your customers. That kind of a reputation will take a knife maker far. Thanks, Austin, TX Hi: and Thanks for Your interest in my work. Your knife is shown here as the M9 Raptor http://www.relentlessknives.com/catalog2007.html Your question is very interesting. I have been making knives for 16 years now, 13 of them full time. Although I have no formal count, I believe I have made thousands of knives. Each has been made completely by hand, with no laser cutouts etc, and, I have sold virtually every knife I have ever made 99% of the sales being on the Internet since 2001. My sales structure has been in place for may years, and works like this. Each year I publish an Internet catalog, and, take orders from my catalog. I complete each order for cataloged knives in 16 weeks or less, and take no orders beyond what I can complete in that time frame. Also, during the year I make other knives, which are part of the creative process of designing new and different models for the next years catalog. These are sold on Ebay as non cataloged, variants or prototypes. My knives are slightly different than many out there, in that they are specifically built to withstand the most extreme conditions, and keep on working. I have them torture tested again and again by soldiers at home and in war zones, in an effort to make sure they are as reliable as they can get. I publish these tests on my web site and monthly Enews. The guy in charge of these tests is a Major in the U.S. Army, an extreme outdoor adventurer, and he is always available for comment. and will tell you truthfully that his instructions are to destroy the knife with his hands if possible. He has resorted to gunfire on several occasions, and although several knives made from various steels were shot and killed....knives made from 5160 steel survived this test with little damage. CPMs30V has not yet been subjected to gunfire ,...as it's just so expensive, but will be ......LOL So back to your question, do collectors find my knives valuable......and if so were are they selling on the net. I don't know.....perhaps collectors have little time for using knives, although I have sold quite a few to people who claim to be knife collectors. Maybe they are being traded at....gun or knife shows..... I have never set up to a at any. So ....I don't really have an answer for you. I do know this. I believe that in a free country, every citizen in the situation of last resort is a soldier, this was learned from my father and he from his. This being so, it is the responsibility of each free man to have within his reach in time of great need the means within the law, to protect himself and his country from invasion. So, it seems a good practice to have available at all times, at least a rifle, a good knife, a rope and some type of fire starter. In such situations, were the individual man has little to rely on, and may never be resupplied if he remains alive....... it seems a good idea rich or poor to get and hold the sturdiest of the above mentioned articles. Agreed, that some may find this practice archaic in the 21st century, and may find the few dollars held in these items better spent, but I think not, because without electric, and maybe even gun powder, human nature will continue and survival could depend on the most basic of things. So all I can say, is perhaps collectors are keeping their Relentless knives. I continue to make and sell them, and still, after many years am greatly excited at the completion of each knife and even more by new and better designs. Thanks Again for your interest | ![]() |

| The M2 Talon is one of my most popular compact knives. It's small in OAL, but Big in lots of other ways. Here is what a customer wrote: Hi Dan I received the knives and can't express how happy i am with them. You really can't get an accurate read on how substantial the Talon design is from photos. Very impressive to hold. Both knives fit my hand perfectly. I appreciated the attention to detail, including the increased handle width on the no-handle knife. Makes up for the lack of thickness perfectly. I used that knife to make a quick ax from a one inch thick stick. I used only that knife and the lashing that came with it and had the ax finished in about 10 minutes. It worked very well on some soft wood. I was able to dig out a 3 inch deep "V" with two swipes into a log and was able to split a 4 inch wide log with one hit and very little prying. I didn't have the heart to test it on any hard wood . . . just too shiny and new. I will really enjoy the sense of security that such a heavy-duty tool will provide on my next light-weight back country trek. You just never know what could happen once you get a few days in on a hike, and one of these Talons will make my current "kit" feel very complete. Sincerely Luke OPTIONS are available...... the above customer wanted additional lashing holes in his knives, which add to the usefulness on the trail and in a survival situation, were your knife may be the only tool you have for a long time. He also requested the P cord wrapped knife made from specially tempered 5160 steel in order that the knife would withstand not only the rigors of hard and heavy use as a knife, but so that it would resist the rigors of throwing knife training, as he is learning a special "no spin" method of knife throwing. I tried the throwing method before making his knife, and found that although possible, the method may be very difficult to learn. But with practice it may be the most accurate and effective throwing method available. He was bound and determined to learn it, and got a special knife to not only facilitate his training, but that would have approx. the same feel as his s30V knife just in case it became a requirement in an unexpected situation. | By
Peter Ferrara, an associate professor of law at the George Mason
University School of Law. September 25, 2001 9:20 a.m. National Review To Kill an American You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So I just thought I would write to let them know what an American is, so they would know when they found one. An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan. An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as Native Americans. An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God. An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness. An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country! As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least. The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America . Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists. So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom T iananmen Square, Taiwan independence , Falun Gong |
