Hi Dan Just a question about the prices of knives. There a couple of knives I'm addicted to. A real quality katana or tanto, a double edged blade and a good solid survival knife. I totally love the Cold steel tai pan dagger but why must it cost +$500? Same with you M4X. Marco: Well, Cold steel invented the expensive knife with their Tanto many years ago. But , they made a better knife than anything available at the time. Today lot's of stuff is made in China, (Cold Steel included) so who knows about if it is worth the price. Communist countrys may appear to be doing what Capitolists do, but don't believe it ,Slaves work cheap or die. I think that their high end stuff is still made in Japan. The Japanese still make some of the best blades in the world. Usually, you get what you pay for. and, it all depends on what your doing with the knife as to whether it's worth the money. My knives are built like tanks, and unless your Superman, you are not going to break them, etc. etc. That is stock, and then,there are the enhancements, and although my knives seem expensive, you would realize after a day or so of work at my side, that the price is mostly kept by the customer. I tell people who want to order one of my knives with all the options, like hand forged, zone tempered, thripple thermo quenched and cycled.....don't waste the money unless you plan on building citys in the forest with the knife as your only tool. And it's true, as steel correctly prepared is just amazing. But, if your not going to need the enhancments....you will never know they are there. So I suppose it's the same with any thing. Don't buy a Relentless knife unless you need one. If you do need one, you'll be glad you did. Dan

Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington DC is the first stop for many of America's returning wounded service members from Iraq and Afghanistan. Known as "the amputee ward", the orthopedic Ward 57 at WRAMC houses some of the most severely injured patients for weeks or even months. The painful sacrifice of losing one or more limbs is the new battle these service members and their families now fight. Operation Ward 57 was started to have a direct way for individuals and companies to show their support and raise funds for these courageous men and women who have given so much. The program is run through pro-football player Kerry Carter's THINK BIG FOUNDATION, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Tax ID: 20-196-2446, in partnership with Atmosphere Artist Management LLC. This is a grass-roots, volunteer effort. Each person who buys a T-shirt, not only shows their support, but directly contributes to items for the Ward, patients, family members and staff.

Relentless Fang: Small but Potent!

Dan has been getting a lot of interest in one of his new designs this year: the Fang. It is easy to see why once you handle and use this knife. The size and shape is perfect for an Every Day Carry (EDC) knife. While the knife is not large, it fits the hand like a natural extension and is really well balanced and ideal for the daily cutting requirements that you may face. I was able to put this theory to test during a recent move for my family.
    For anyone who has moved, you know it includes a seemingly endless supply of boxes and various items to cut and tear open. I had a medium size folder in my pocket and I started the dauntless task of opening boxes with this knife. I soon found myself becoming frustrated since I was constantly opening, closing, and putting the knife back in my pocket just to pull it out again to cut something else. This lead me to find my ammo can that I used to store my knives and pull out the Fang. I have already conducted my normal tests on this knife, so I knew it was up to any task I could throw at it. What I did not know is just how handy a small fixed blade knife would be for the two weeks it took to unpack the house. I wore the Fang on my belt the entire time and cut everything from cardboard, tape, rope, cord, etc. as I went from room to room. Having a small fixed blade was so much easier than a pocketknife because you did not have to constantly open and close the knife. You just drew the knife, cut what you had to, and put it right back into the sheath. Another thing I noticed was the lack of maintenance I needed to keep the blade in good order. Normally I clean and coat the knife with PB Blaster before storing the knife outside of the sheath. I wanted to see what would happen to the blade with no maintenance and hard use for the entire two week period. I was pleased to see that the steel became slightly discolored (my Fang is sandblasted L6 steel) but no rust or heavy staining occurred. I know Dan mentioned that constant use of a knife will actually help keep it looking good, but it is one of those things that you need to see to believe.
    If I would improve one thing with my Fang setup it would be to add the ability to attach the sheath in multiple directions. Dan used a Malice Clip on a kydex sheath, but it is set up for vertical carry only (while it can be used as a neck knife in this configuration as well). There are times that I would prefer to wear this knife horizontally on my belt to reduce the profile even more. Dan has made multi position carry sheaths; this particular model simply does not have that.
    Overall the Fang performed superbly in all my normal cutting tests that include green and dry wood, rope, 550 cord, etc. Where this knife really shined was during my two week ordeal of unpacking. This design proved perfect for an EDC knife that vastly outperformed my folder. Even with no maintenance, the knife just kept cutting and cutting. For anyone who needs a small, fixed blade knife for the little cutting tasks that your daily life brings, the Fang will provide a potent tool.

To Kill an American
You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.
So I just thought I would write to let them know what an American is, so they would know when they found one.
An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.
An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as Native Americans.
An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.
An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.
When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country! As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan.
Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services.
But they also welcome the least.
The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America .
Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.
So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom
